Now this shoot was the epitome of impromptu.
Jay DM’ed me after work, saying he had some forms to drop off. I know he’s got the antibodies, so he’s good to pull up. We poured a couple glasses of Julienas 2018 a chatted for a bit. Snowboarding, Alessia Cara, buying too many clothes online, we talked for a good minute before I had to bust out the camera and take a few shots. Jay’s a natural born model: comfortable with posing, aware of his body, and super collaborative with ideas and feedback. He’s got amazing taste, so we didn’t even have to adjust his wardrobe for this shoot. We had a lot of fun, and are definitely gonna work again.
I didn’t use a flash for these shots. My FalconEyes RX18TD was my key light, set to 3000k, flown above Jay on a rolling C-stand with a hollywood arm. I really wanted to lean into the warm, ““cinematic”” tones, and the quality of light the fixture produces is outstanding. Plus, its light weight and small footprint makes it easy to use in a tight spaces without a ton of grip. I had a small LED panel behind me camera left to get an eye light going.
